| Wessex; The history… |
The kingdom of Wessex, circa 800 AD, stretched from Selsey Bill (Chichester harbour) to Winchester and then
on to Bath and Bristol.
The whole South West of England was for a long time only
known as Wessex. The trading towns along the south coast
provided safe harbours, trading bases and the best of a
bad road network. The area covered by Wessex in 9th
century includes the coastal ports of the Hamble,
Southampton, Poole, Weymouth, the Exe, Brixham, Torquay,
Dartmouth, Salcombe, the Yelm, Plymouth, Fowey, St Maws,
the Fal, Halford, St Ives and Newly, the Scilly’s,
Padstow, Bideford, Barnstable, Burnham, Weston and
Bristol.

The Wyvern, a fireless dragon, soon became the symbol of
power, dependability and safety for the people who lived
in Wessex, we have taken the Wyvern to be our logo to
knit in with the time honoured tradition and values
which emulate our own. |
